Supporting the Blue Plate Campaign

Alice McMahon loves to share WWII stories, especially about her late husband Norman, who was a Sargent in the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR), and a recipient of many distinguished medals during the war. “He had a great smile,” she recalls when she talks about him. “When he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for Valour in Rimini, Italy, he was so proud and so proud to have served our country.”
Alice, who is in her eighties, is a WWII Canadian Navy Veteran (WREN), an active Canadian Legion member, an avid writer and poet, a past volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a current recipient of the Caledon Meals on Wheels (CMOW) meal program. She is also the first person to honour the memory of her loving husband through Caledon Meals on Wheel’s first ever Blue Plate Campaign.
Donating to the Blue Plate Campaign is an easy way to honour a loved one and make a difference in the lives of individuals, like Alice, in the community. Proceeds raised during the campaign will go directly to fund CMOW programs and services that serve our local Veterans, seniors, those suffering with a disability, individuals who are chronically ill or recovering from surgery and many others who need some extra help from time-to-time.

For each honourary donation of $20 or more, a blue plate will be on display in our offices. Everyone who has received a Blue Plate Campaign Ornament in the mail is encouraged to display it on their Christmas Tree this holiday season and post pictures of their loved ones and why they are honouring them on our Facebook page. Donors will receive special recognition on our website and Facebook page. For those who would like to make a donation but do not have access to the internet or Facebook, please mail in your picture or honourary information with your donation and we will post it for you. Also, if you are entertaining this holiday season, considering a Blue Plate fundraising event with friends by asking for donations to CMOW in lieu of gifts is another way to support the campaign.

“He loved a good meal with friends and taking care of people,” Alice recollects, “So honouring him this way just made sense.”
